“Innovation and Technology” has been identified as one of the Six Industries to be able to grant Hong Kong greater advantages and potential in sustainable development. Investment in youth education should therefore be highly recognised. Based on this shared vision, Innovation and Technology Commission of the HKSAR Government, HSBC and The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups worked together to establish the Innovation and Technology Scholarship in 2011 for the young talents in Hong Kong.
This Scholarship offers outstanding undergraduates of Hong Kong the opportunities to widen their international exposure, gaining industry experience, and nurture their passion and commitment toward science and technology.
Nominated by the university presidents and then selected by the Awardee Selection Committee with members from different sectors, 25 awardees each year, who study science, engineering and health-related subjects, receive HK$150,000 each to participate in a series of initiatives, including Overseas/ Mainland Attachment Programme, Mentorship Programme, Local Internship Programme and Service Project Programme.
Moreover, an Alumni Association formed by the past awardees of the Scholarship, becomes a platform to sustain these youth’s personal development and knowledge exchange. To be powered by their expertise in innovation and technology, members of the Alumni Association work together to serve the community and promote innovation and technology.
The Scholarship is sponsored and supported by the Innovation and Technology Commission and powered by HSBC, while The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups is the organiser. The support given by a group of reputable academics, personalities, as well as several science and technology related companies and organisations also helped move this Scholarship forward.
